TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The 20th Asia Pacific Amateur
Golf Team Championship comes to an end with the victory of
Australian today. The trophy of "Nomura Cup" was
the fifth time won by Australia. For the four days' tournament,
the winning team had shot total 814 of 50 par under. Their
excellent performance will be the history of the event and
their names including 18 years old Steven Bowditch, 19 years
old Andrew Buckle, 20 years old Luke Hickmott and 23 years
old Marcus Fraser will be engraved on the "Nomura Cup".
The First runner-up is New Zealand of total 821 and followed
by Japan of total 828. The results of other teams in sequence
order are: Korea(830), Chinese Taipei(838), Thailand(850),
Malaysia(854), India(857), China Hong Kong(882), Pakistan(888),
China(900) and Singapore(905).
The Best Individual is Australian Marcus Fraser total of
269(67-68-67-67) 19 par under. Second best were shared by
Tim Wikinson from Zealand and Haruo Fujishima who were also
of total 217 with 17 par under. The most excitement of today
was 2 hole-in-one were shot by Takayoshi Iseki of Japan and
Wisut Artjanawat of Thailand.
A Closing Ceremony was hekl today with the attendance of
the new President of APGC Mr. Eiichiro Tsuji, Secretary General
of APGC Mr. Bertie To Jr., Assistant to Director of Multi-Ball
Games Administrative Center of the State Sport and Treasurer
of China Golf Association Mr. Li Gao Chao, Vice Mayor of Jiangmen
Mr. He Xian Song and Director & General Manager of WuYi
Fountain Palm Golf Club Mr. Aylwin Tai. Mr. Tsuji also presented
prizes to the best individual, 1st runner-up team and the
winning team. Tsuji and the Captain of the winning team, Australia
made speeches during the ceremony. Both of them showed great
appreciation to the organizers of the event-Asia Pacific Golf
Confederation, China Golf Association, WuYi Fountain Palm
Golf Club and the people who dedicated their effort to the
tournament.
WuYi Fountain Palm Golf Club hosted a farewell dinner for
all the participating teams and officials on the same night.
The dinner was wrapped with happiness and excitement.
The success of the event was not only supported by the organizers
but only by the sponsorship from Well Shine Sporting Products,
Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd., Athlon, BCLN Sports, Guangdong
Huashanquan Group Ltd., Celeste Palace Hotel and Golf Tattler
International Publication.
"The Nomura Cup" had been a 38 years event and
held biennially. This year was a first time ever held in China.
The host venue, WuYi Fountain Palm Golf Club is a golf and
property project owned by Hong Kong & Macau celebrity
Dr. Stanley Ho The club includes a 27-hole golf course designed
by Nicklaus Design which is one of a top class championship
golf course in China. All the management and staff of the
club leaded by Mr. Aylwin Tai had paid their maximum effort
to ensure the event was a complete success. In the meantime,
the event had shown the rapid growth of development of golf
in China in past 10 years. |
